AN EXPLOSION OF COLOR! Do you want to know what mixing different colors will do? For this activity, we will be making a color-mixing erupting volcano using food coloring, baking soda and vinegar! You can try mixing red and blue for purple, yellow and blue for green or yellow and red for orange. Watch as the colors create a beautiful explosion!

Materials List

  • Large clear jar or cup
  • ¼ cup of baking soda
  • 1 cup of white vinegar 
  • Food coloring (primary colors)
  • Tray


  1. Pour baking soda into jar (about ¼ cup) (0:56)
  2. Add color to the baking soda (a mix of two primary colors to make a secondary color)(1:38
