Rainbow Candy Science

Rainbow Candy Science

Does your child love rainbows and candy? You’re in luck! We’ll be exploring color mixing and patterning by conducting a skittles science experiment. Enjoy!

Materials List

  • A white plate/dish
  • Skittles or M&Ms
  • Warm water

  1. Place your Skittles or M&Ms in a circle around your plate/dish. You can try doing this in different shapes to see what happens. Challenge: Make a pattern! (0:38)
  2. Add in the warm water in the middle of the plate. Make sure you add enough so that it goes right to the edge of the candy. (1:03)
  3. Wait 30 seconds to see the colors come out! The color from the candy will start to dissolve from its shell once you add in the warm water. (1:18)
